Improving Intercultural Communication Skills | This demo lesson will help students to improve their intercultural communication skills by focusing on aspects of contemporary culture in Canada and Japan. After short introductions and a review of interactive expressions, several cultural images will be used to compare some basic aspects of Japanese and Canadian cultures. We will consider aspects related to (1) history, (2) environment, (3) objects, (4) beliefs, (5) communication, (6) behavior, and (7) identity and learn how to initiate and sustain conversation about them. Material will be presented using handouts and a PowerPoint slideshow. This lesson will be conducted in basic English. | K305 |

11:35~12:20 | Understanding Society Through Pop Culture in English | This short lesson will help students develop their English conversation skills while critically comparing the U.K. and Japan through their respective popular culture. Through a number of activities including games, vocabulary building activities and pair/group discussions, students will learn how to share their enthusiasm for favourite aspects of their own and other cultures (film, music, TV, comics, etc.) while engaging one another critically, and encourage comparison between different societies.
